If these reports are anything to go by, we could see a rumored 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus model this year, when Apple releases fresh new updates to its current lineup of flagship smartphones.
The leaked image of the display which was reportedly shown on MacX Forums seems to indicate a production date which corresponds with November 2017.
As far as things stand authenticity-wise, that’s up for debate. It is, however, reasonable to conclude that Apple already has plans in motion for another iteration of the iPhone X. By looking at the company’s track record of product upgrades, it’s a high probability that we could see an iPhone X Plus this year with a larger screen.
What’s also interesting about this photo, is the size of the notch which has been the point of contention for some users.
A few reports are claiming that we might see a smaller sized notched area for 2018, as seen by the person holding the digitizer with the flex cable at the end.
That flex cable and digitizer is claimed to come from a trial run production located at LG’s facilities in Vietnam.
We fully expect Apple to use its arch-rival Samsung for the display technology again this year unless there is another major falling out between the two tech giants. It could be that Apple is testing alternative display technologies with LG as a backup solution. It’s hard to tell at this point.
So far, we are expecting a 6.5 and 5.8-inch OLED iPhone X along with a rumored LCD model at 6.1-inches.
Still, you should take this with a grain of salt for now.
In the featured image above, we have what looks like a bunch of assembled parts inside of a container, which is laid on a flat surface.
With the introduction of a larger premium model, Apple is placing a gamble here in my opinion.
The iPhone X which is the company’s best smartphone also comes with a high price tag, and that doesn’t sit well with a lot of its customers.
It’s fair to reason that with a more substantial display comes a higher point of entry for end users which might not justify a purchase.
Will the Apple announce three smartphones for 2018? Who knows. But for now, this is something to look forward to for later this year.
I suspect we will see more leaked images as we move forward to an announcement later in the year.
