Faraday Future may be making its first few waves in the electric vehicle space, but it will also be getting its feet wet in the Formula E championship scene as a team sponsor.
The promising EV startup announced that it will be the title sponsor and primary technical partner to the Dragon Racing team in Formula E. The team will be named Faraday Future Dragon Racing, and will be taking part in the third season of Formula E, which runs from 2016 to 2017.
Faraday’s role in the partnership, as mentioned, goes far beyond mere sponsorship. Both companies will be working closely with each other to improve drivetrain performance on the current Dragon Racing platform. And once the team has competed in Season 3 of Formula E, it will start using Faraday components, which, according to the company, may include motors, gearboxes, and the proprietary FF Echelon Inverter. This is a part that will be found on all Faraday Future cars once the California automaker’s vehicles are ready for release.
“Partnering with Dragon Racing allows us to further showcase our electric vehicle leadership and technical capabilities in one of the most exciting Formulas in the world,” read a brief statement from Faraday’s senior vice president of global R&D Nick Sampson.
Meanwhile, Faraday Future’s future, no pun intended, is also looking bright as far as its core electronic vehicle business is concerned. It had recently teamed up with Chinese tech company LeEco for funding on a driving research center in Silicon Valley. The automaker had also made a splash at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, having unveiled a interesting concept race car called the FFZERO1. As for its Formula E racing activities, the Dragon Racing team-up is not its first, as it had been the title sponsor for this year’s Long Beach ePrix.
